Ms Nonceba Mhlauli was appointed as Deputy Minister in The Presidency from 3 July 2024.
She has vast experience in the national government sphere, particularly in The Presidency, where she previously served as the Spokesperson for the Ministry in The Presidency from 2019 to 2023. She has served as a Communications Specialist in the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies. Ms Mhlauli was previously Head of Communications and Spokesperson for the African National Congress (ANC) Caucus in Parliament from 2016 to 2019.
Prior to her appointment as ANC Caucus Head of Communications, she worked as a policy researcher for the ANC Caucus in the Western Cape Legislature and as an economic researcher for the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union.
From 2019 to 2024, she served on the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee of the Council of the South Cape Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College. She also served as the Deputy Secretary-General on the TVET Council of Governors until her appointment as Deputy Minister.
Ms Mhlauli was elected as the Provincial Executive Committee Member of the Progressive Professionals Forum in the Western Cape from 2016 to 2019.
She has since December 2022 be serving as a Member of the National Executive Committee and National Working Committee of the ANC. Her previous political roles as a youth activist include serving as National Convener of the ANC Youth League and the National Executive Committee of the South African Students’ Congress.
Ms Mhlauli holds a Master of Arts degree in African Language Studies and Politics from Rhodes University and is currently pursuing her PhD in Communications at the University of South Africa.
